Bronny James, the eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, was one of five amateur basketball players to sign a NIL endorsement deal with Nike that was officially announced Monday.
James, 37, has been with Nike throughout his NBA career and signed a lifetime deal with the brand in 2015. said Bronny James On Monday, part of his reasoning for agreeing to the deal was to continue his “family legacy” with Nike, ESPN reported.
“Nike has been a part of my family for as long as I can remember,” James said. “To get the chance to team up with them and continue my family’s legacy both on the court and in the community is wild – it really means a lot to me.”
Iowa junior Caitlin Clark, Stanford senior Haley Jones and high school guards JuJu Watkins and DJ Wagner have also signed deals with Nike.
Nike hailed these five players as “pioneers” for the success of the next generation of basketball players, the company said in a statement.
“Every athlete is recognized as a player who paves the way for the next generation on and off the pitch,” said Nike. “These athletes are pushing Nike to think of new ways in which the game can break down barriers, bring people together, build communities and shape the future.”
