The world’s best golfers will meet at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in England for the Open Championship, which takes place from 20th to 23rd July.

The 154 year old golf course is known for its character and unique history. Each hole has its own name as the course is mostly level but some holes run through sand hills. The course has recently undergone some refurbishment with the 17th hole being converted from a par 4 to a 136 yard par 3.

The last time the Open Championship was played at Royal Liverpool Golf Club was in 2014. Rory McIlroy won the Open Championship that year by shooting 17 under par 271 and defeating Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia by two shots.

It was also McIlroy’s last win in a major tournament. The Northern Irishman has come close to winning a major tournament on a number of occasions since, including last year’s Open Championship when he finished third, two shots down on the winners CameronSmith. McIlroy also finished second at the US Open that year, losing by one shot to Wyndham Clark. He’s also entering this year’s Open Championship fresh after winning the Scottish Open last weekend.
