A win on Sunday would put Tiger in a six-way tie for third on the Open’s most title list. Bettors are going all-in on Woods as he currently has the largest liability for the Open at BetMGM with 5.7% of tickets (2nd most) and 6.7% of handles (3rd most).
Woods bettors also make up 10% of the handle at DraftKings Sportsbook (most).
“Tiger Woods is already a significant liability for BetMGM at The Open Championship,” said Jason Scott, BetMGM’s Vice President of Trading. “Judging from his last few tournaments, Tiger’s body seems to be taking an incredible toll playing four days in a row so we’re happy with the tremendous strain.”
Tiger Woods says LIV players have turned their backs on the PGA | THE HERD
Tiger Woods has delivered his harshest criticism yet of the golfers who gave up the PGA status quo for the Incentive Heave LIV Tour.
Despite the big bets on Wood, he’s still a significant long-range shot to win the tournament. Understandably given his health and recent performances.
Tiger’s last PGA win was at the Zozo Championships on October 28, 2019.
At the Masters in April, he finished 47th. Tiger made his first start on the PGA Tour since the 2020 Masters after his car accident in February 2021.
Tiger shot a 9-over-par 79 in May in the third round of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then retired. It was the third-worst round of his major career and the fifth-worst of his pro career.
Still, Tiger’s troubles haven’t deterred bettors as the big bets continue to roll in.
