Danilo Gallinariwho signed a two-year, $13.2 million deal with the Boston Celtics Last month, he tore his cruciate ligament while playing for the Italy national team in a FIBA World Cup qualifier.
The injury occurred on August 27 and could see Gallinari miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season.
Gallinari had previously torn the same ACL (left knee) in April 2013, causing him to miss the 2013-14 season after undergoing two surgeries.
Gallinari took to Twitter on Friday and let fans know that he is determined to return to action next season.
After spending his first three NBA seasons with the New York Knicks, the 14-year veteran spent six years with the Denver Nuggets before embarking on a league tour. Gallinari had stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks before ending up with the Celtics.
The 34-year-old Gallinari averaged 11.7 points per game with Atlanta last year, his lowest since his rookie season, along with 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists while hitting 43 in 25.3 minutes per game, shot 4% from field and 38.1% from 3-point range.
