The stars of the NFL and NBA dynasties compete against each other – on the golf course.
In the 2023 edition of The Match, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs take on Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors in a two-on-two 12-hole golf competition. It takes place on June 29th at the Wynn Las Vegas Resort.
It’s the latest installment in an annual event that has featured some of the biggest names in professional golf, as well as several NFL superstars. Mahomes attended the event last year alongside Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, facing off against Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Other former contestants include Peyton Manning, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
This is the first time The Match will feature NBA stars, but it’s no uncharted territory for Curry, an avid golfer. The Warriors superstar was recently named a 2023 PGA Ambassador and started his own golf tour, The UNDERRATED Tour. designed to increase junior golf participation in minority communities. Mahomes and Kelce have also previously attended several celebrity and charity golf events.
Mahomes and Kelce win their second Super Bowl together in February. Curry and Thompson, meanwhile, are trying to win their fifth NBA championship but are currently trailing 1-0 to the Los Angeles Lakers and old foe LeBron James in the Western Conference semifinals.
