2022 Masters Round 3: Tiger Woods drops to 41st, Scheffler leads

The master finished Round 3 with the top 50 golfers on Saturday.

Five-time winner Tiger WoodsOut of contention since his devastating car accident 14 months ago, he fell down the leaderboard after a tough day, shooting a 78 to drop from tied 19th to 41st.

After his round, he said his putter had let him down.

Now number 1 in the world Scottie Schefflerwho emerged as the solo leader in Round 2, stayed at the top of the leaderboard after shooting 1-under par that day – bringing him to 9-under par overall.

Woods found momentum in the back half of the course, sinking birdies on #12 and #13 to crawl to 3-over-par. Despite the momentary rise, it was ultimately a tough day for Woods.

THE REST OF THE FIELD

Scheffler extended his considerable lead early on.

He was fabulous on the greens, using clever wedge play to avoid bogeys and staying level through several rounds.

Scheffler tapped in back-to-back birdies to take a six-shot lead after No. 3.

Scheffler continued to dominate throughout his day.

Shane Lowry chased after with commendable own spurts and came with four shots from his opponent, but Scheffler fended off his comeback attempt by going to -11 after the eighth hole.

Justin Thomas shot his way out of a difficult No. 10 situation and smashed a smooth shot through brush to get onto the green.

Fight bravely

Scheffler had a firm grip on first place, but a hotly contested battle was going on for second place.

Australia’s Cameron Smith moved to seven under par by stringing together two impressive rounds.

He climbed the lead in three strokes with a well-placed birdie in 15th place and moved up to 6 under par overall.

It wasn’t easy, but Collin Morikawa on three made it look easy to break into the top 10.
